CAN I PROTECT ASSETS AFTER I ENTER THE NURSING HOME?

There are no rules that prevent someone from planning for long-term care expenses after they enter a nursing home or assisted living facility. Any application for government benefits will fully disclose any planning that is done. Obviously, you need to take into account the cost of the care that you are currently receiving and the need to pay the people providing for your care. However, there may still be some opportunities to protect assets, take action that will benefit you and your family, and get qualified for government benefits while you are in the nursing home.
